A sauna party is a different kind of celebration. Instead of shouting over music, your group sits in the warm cedar, talks, laughs, steps out into the cool air, and does it all again. It works for bachelorette and bachelor weekends, birthdays, run clubs, holiday get-togethers and backyard nights with friends.
Here's how to plan one with a mobile sauna in the Toledo area, from where to park it to how the afternoon flows.
Short version: pick a level spot the trailer can reach, start the fire about 45 minutes before guests want to go in, run 10 to 15 minute rounds with breaks outside, and save the drinks for after the last round.
1. Pick the spot
The sauna rides on a trailer about 12 feet long, so it needs a level spot our truck and trailer can reach: a driveway, a parking pad or firm, flat ground. Keep it clear of low branches, and keep anything that can burn away from the chimney.
A few things make the day easier:
- An outdoor outlet for the LED lights (an extension cord is fine). The heat itself comes from the wood stove, not electricity.
- A hose or a few jugs of water for ladling onto the stones and for drinking.
- Chairs or a bench outside for cool-down breaks between rounds.
Hosting at a park, brewery or venue instead of a backyard? Ask them first whether they allow a wood-fired stove. We're happy to answer their questions directly. Not sure your spot works? Text us a photo.
2. Get the timing right
Drop-off is usually between 2 and 8 PM, and we walk you through everything when we set up. The wood stove takes about 45 minutes to bring the sauna to roughly 180 to 200°F. Cold or windy days take a little longer.
So if guests arrive at 6, plan to light the fire around 5:15. By the time everyone has said hello and changed, the sauna is ready.
3. Plan your rounds
The sauna seats up to six people at a time. For bigger groups, people take turns in rounds of 15 to 20 minutes, so a group of 20 to 30 can cycle through comfortably over an afternoon or evening.
A simple rhythm that works for most groups:
- 10 to 15 minutes in the heat. First-timers can start with 5 to 10.
- 5 to 10 minutes outside to cool down, plus a glass of water.
- Repeat two or three times.
Ladle a little water onto the hot stones to send a soft wave of steam through the room. The Finns call it löyly. Go slowly, one ladle at a time, and let everyone know before you pour.
4. Add the cold plunge
Hot, then cold, then hot again is the part people talk about afterward. Our cold plunge and portable shower add-on sits right next to the sauna door, so going from heat to cold takes three steps.
New to cold water? Step in slowly, keep your head above water, breathe through the first gasp, and get out after 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Never plunge alone.
5. Food, drinks and the toast
Have plenty of water, sparkling water, electrolyte drinks and light snacks out for the breaks. Fruit, salty snacks and something to share after the last round all go over well.
Save the alcohol for after everyone is done with the sauna and the plunge. Heat and alcohol are a bad mix, and it's one of our safety rules. Make the toast the finale: last round, cold plunge, then the champagne.
6. A few house rules to share with guests
- No children under 12 in the sauna. Teens 12 to 17 only with a parent there.
- An adult stays nearby whenever the fire is burning.
- Anyone who is pregnant or has a heart condition or other health concern should check with their doctor first.
- Get out and cool down if you feel dizzy, lightheaded or unwell.
Send guests our sauna safety guide ahead of time, and have everyone sign the waiver online. It takes about two minutes.
7. What to tell guests to bring
- A swimsuit and a towel (or two)
- Flip-flops or sandals
- A water bottle
- Comfy clothes for after
We bring the sauna hats, bucket and ladle, essential oils and flip-flops for the sauna itself.
